4. Philosophy and Objectives

            4.1 Philosophy

           The Faculty of Nursing Science, as an integral part of the Assumption University, positions itself as a community of students and qualified scholars for whom the dimension of faith and spiritual perception* as contained in the phrase “Service to man is service to God” are of great significance.
            We are committed to provide nursing education based on the beliefs of metaparadigm in nursing profession. We believe that health is human rights and valued as optimal state of happiness and well-being. Nursing is an ethical and autonomous profession which is the science of multidisciplinary body of knowledge derived by evidence-based inquiry. The quality nursing services are ensured through comprehensive health approach,  family-centered approach and self-care concept in nursing process for individual, family, and community.   

            *(Blessed is she who carries within herself an ideal of gospel’s virtue for she shall accomplish great things.) 

            4.2 Objectives

            The Nursing Science program of Au aims to produce qualified professional nursing graduates who:
            1. demonstrate sense of maturity and professional growth,
            2. possess high professional qualifications, and distinctive entrepreneurship,
            3. are literate in health care informatics and management,
            4. balance business orientation with nursing profession,
            5. perform sustainable development and scientific inquiry through research,
            6. possess leadership qualities and ethical mind,
            7. manifest assertiveness and social accountability,
            8. are well versed in English and other languages,
            9. effectively collaborate with national and international health care team.

6. Admission Qualifications

            6.1 Minimum age 17
            6.2 Height 150 cms. or more is preferable
            6.3 Weight is not lower than 40 kgs.
            6.4 Grade 12 or M.6 Certificate issued by the Ministry of Education or its equivalence
            6.5 Healthy
            6.6 Clear record of criminal charge and/or bad conduct or behavior problem

7. Selection Procedure

            7.1 Application process

            Application process and required documents follow the standard and regulation of the university admission policy which will be announced at least 60 days prior to the commencement of the first semester.

            7.2 Entrance Examination

                        7.2.1 Written Examination

            The University Entrance Examination requires the potential applicants to go through the following written examination:
            1. Science (Chemistry, Biology and Physics)
            2. Mathematics
            3. English language
            4. Thai language
            5. Social Science

                       7.2.2 Interview

            The candidates who successfully pass the entrance examination will be interviewed by the admission committee to assess other aspects of candidates’ qualifications.

                       7.2.3 Health Examination

            The candidates who successfully pass the interview must have the health examination and obtain a healthy record.

8. Educational Management System

            8.1 Semester System

            Faculty of Nursing Science organizes the teaching-learning process into two semesters and a summer session. A semester lasts approximately sixteen weeks.
            - First semester- June to October
            - Second semester- November to March
            - Summer Session-April to May (optional)

            8.2 Credit Values

            One credit hour of a theory course requires a minimum of 15 hours of class attendance; a subject involving 3 credit hours will require at least 45 hours in class. One credit hour of a practicum course requires a minimum of 75 hours of practices.

9. Duration of Study

            Students must complete all the requirements for the degree within 8 academic years from the first date of enrollment.

10. Registration

            Students can register for a minimum of 9 credits and a maximum of 18 credits per semester.

11.  Evaluation and Graduation

            11.1 Evaluation Criteria

                        11.1.1 Grading System

            Grading is based on the final examination, tests, reports, presentation, and / or other assignments. Letter grades are used to show the academic standing of all students with the following meanings and values.

                        11.1.2 Minimum grade requirements

            The students who obtain a grade of  “C” or lower in any professional course are required to retake that course.
          For the courses with no credit provided, the designation of grade will be  “S” (Satisfactory) or “U” (Unsatisfactory).
            Grade “C” or higher of the remedial courses is equivalent to “S”

           

            11.2 Graduation Requirements

Assumption University confers the degree of Bachelor of Nursing Science to students who meet all the educational requirements listed below:

                        11.2.1 Complete a minimum of 142 credits of the program

                        11.2.2 Earn cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00 (“C” average)

                        11.2.3 Obtain at least “C” grade in all professional courses

                       11.2.4 Participate in 16 sessions of the student assembly for Professional                                    Ethics
                       11.2.5 Demonstrate good behavior and self discipline by obtaining at least 70%                                     of disciplinary scores.

                       11.2.6 Pass the exit interview to prove English proficiency with academic advisor and/or English instructor.

                        11.2.7 Have library and financial clearance with the university.
